Important note: Do not alter the content information of "VRAM & bit-depth explnd" in any way. You may move things around if you open it with something other than the application I created it with so that it will print nice from your application, but don't change the content at all. You may distribute hard copies of this document to your heart's content, but you may not distribute the original soft copy from the CD.
This document is a graphical representation (or "matrix" as I like to call it) of the maximum number of colors (bit-depth) you can achieve under certain video memory configurations for CPUs with built-in video support as well as which Apple video cards support which monitors (and at which bit-depths).
I created this document because I'm always forgetting these gory little details, so I wanted something I could reference easily whenever I wanted to know/remember. I showed it to my peers and they suggested that I publish it far and wide (I guess I'm not the only person with a short lived memory for details). Since I believe in the "share and share alike" idiom, I decided to do as they suggested.
This document was created with Canvas version 3.0.3 (Canvas is a product of Deneba). If you have this program, you'd see best results if you opened it with this application. I saved it in PICT file format, though, so if you don't have Canvas, you can open it with any other application which is capable of reading PICT files.
If you want a printout of this file, you'd see best results if you selected landscape, larger print area (checked), reduced 70%, and printed to legal sized paper. You'll also want to select Color/Grayscale since there are color pictures and text.
When distributing this puppy here, I always copied the first two pages double sided and just let the third page tag along for company (I like trees…). Note that the third page is just trivia and some gratuitous pictures--you might decide to not distribute it at all among your coworkers (it's up to you).
